Liquid cooling.Let your smartphone work cool!

We have been cursing our smartphones for so long in regard with tghe overheating that it make. There are instances where people opted a budget phone just due to the fear of heat. The more expensive the smartphone and faster the processor becomes, the more it will generate heat.So have anyone thought of a solution?

Well Microsoft thought so and made it real.Lets take a look at our PC.It has a fan on its processor to keep it cool even with so much of free space in the cabinet. But a smartphone which is tightly packed without a fan is no wonder a heat generating source. So how is it applied to smartphone? Have a look at how automobiles cool.By means of engine coolant liquid.Right? Even Microsoft has adopted the same. The Liquid Cooling Technology in its latest Flagship smartphones namely the Lumia 950 xl.It actally works as a heat absorbant by absorbing the heat generated by the processor and thereby reduces the transmission of heat towards the outer shell. In addition no Overheating means optimal performance. So Consistency in the performance can be expected from such devices. And it can be used for heavier gaming for longer period of time.

Wrap Up: We could expect more samrtphone manufacturers coming up with the same and make our smartphones cooler and more efficient. It is a great start for the new spec to be added to the spec list of our smartphones.

Why Phones like Asus cheaper? : Revealed!

We have Smartphones at all price range. Form mere 1000 rupees to almost 70 k. The more expensive the phones, The more it Performs.Thats how we evaluate them.Right? When some one say that they have bought a 50 k Phone, without any doubts you will think that it is feature rich and the best one. But does Price matter? What about Flagship phones from Lenovo, Xiaomi,One Plus and Asus selling phones of the same specifications at 20-25 k? How are they able to sell them at much lower prices than that of leading and bigger corporate giants like Samsung and Apple?
Back in 2012, Companies like Micromax used to make feature rich phones at a minimal price. We were not so astonished by their pricing as they were of cheap quality Bod shell and usage of cheaper Processors like Mediatek. But in 2015 the case is varied. More companies emerged with phones like Oneplus One, Asus Zenfone 2, Lenovo Vibe x2 etc with the same spec as that of Flagship Costly phones without any compromise in the specifications. Now these smartphones are compared directly against costly handsets like Galaxy S6.

The fact behind this simply lies in the strategy of these Giant companies. A recent report claims that the most costly device till date the Galaxy S6 Edge, by Samsung costs around 18k for Samsung to make. And is now being sold at 50 k. Lets take the case of Last year's Samsung Flagship, The Galaxy S5. It was launched at a price of 48k. Now just within an year after its launch it just costs you 22 k.a 60 % price cut. It is frustrating when you know that the phone that you bought an year ago has slashed in price drastically, and software updates are neglected as the phone grows old.As you know the 2012 flagship S3 has been thrown out from any Android updates recently. Thus they are forced to
buy new models.

So when Samsung manufactures a smartphone at 18 k and sells for 50 k, What is the reason behind this? Profits?? The answer is No. We used to see Ads and Promotions of these handsets more often in televisions and huge banners. Yes, There goes your valuable money. When a company invests in attractive ad campaigns, Those overheads (expenses ) are added up on the product pricing.thus making the price beefier. The Brand value also adds up. Which in usage doesnt matter to the user. It has been said by the One plus company CEO how they are able to sell their smartphones at much lower prices. The answer is simple and effective.

Most of the pricing of the smartphone is hiked mainly due to marketing overheads. Companies like One Plus and Asus markets their products on online. They are heavily marketed by advertisements and banners. They campaign people only through online sources, Thus reducing the costs and the lower brand value also reduces the pricing. The specs of smartphones by these companies can be compared with costly phones and you can find the same Qualcomm chipsets and Perhaps more camera quality. The One plus one is competing at Top 10 Smartphones in the world against 50k smartphones.  <a href="http://techisinfinity.blogspot.in/2015/07/top-powerful-smartphones-chipset-war.html">Read our Article on Top 10 Fastest Smartphones in the world</a>

Now you are clear why you should consider those cheaper smartphones, as the cheapness is only on the pricing and not on the Performance and Quality. The Servicing and spares of these are much better and cheaper than those costly phones. Do Consider these phones before you spend money for those costly phones out there. And if you still do consider brand value, Go for last year flagship phone, like Galaxy S6, LG G3, Htc One M8, etc, So you wont lose money on a phone soon going to be diminished in its value.

Windows phone: To an End or a New Opening?

How many smartphone OS are there in the world? Most of your answers will be the major players as
Android, IOS and Windows phone, although there are couple of other OSs like Sailfish, Cyanogen mod based Android and more. But will the windows phones be there for long?

Most of you should have known that Microsoft recently sold out 7 billion of its Smartphone Industry. With windows 10 at its edge to be out this month, Microsofts currenyt plans are a bit confusing to most of us.But microsoft has clear cut intentions. Before talking about that lets take a look at why windows phones are getting neglected by people and app developers.
The real reason behind why people are not opting windows phone is that the windows store lacks the number of apps and games. When Android is there with millions of apps and games and counting everyday, who will choose a windows phone? So why arent there enough apps for windows phone? The OS share in the market for windows phone is just 3%. An app developer makes an app for reaching the most public so that they can make more revenue. They wont be tolerating to make an app just for this 3 percent. Thus it is clear why Windows Phone store lacks apps.

So What do Microsoft has to tell about the sale? what is the intention of Microsoft regarding the future of windows phone? The Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has the right answers and aim. The strategy of Windows Phone segment is simple. Microsoft Windows is a PC Platform reaching almost all the parts of the world and is the largest and widely used PC OS.So Microsoft's next step is making use of its PC OS popularity in bringing up Windows phone app support. PC apps are getting developed vastly. So Microsoft claims that as a developer makes an app for Windows Phone they are
also enabling themselves to make their apps reach all the windows including PC and Xbox'es.Simply even the windows 10 is made as an unified OS making it a common platform and a common app store for all. Microsoft also claims that the apps made for PC or Windows Phone can be converted alternatively for both of them.Microsoft also promises that there will always be Windows Phone and Microsoft has no plans to shut the Windows Phone segment.Even if OEM's stop producing Windows Phones, Microsoft will produce them.

So with clear cut plans on it, We could assume that soon or later; Windows Phone could emerge towards the front line with much more capabilities as like Android with the primary step already been taken by Microsoft as by the making f the Windows 10, the unified Windows OS.

11k Display: Explore more Possibilities...

We have been through several PPI rates over the last few years. Now we are at 4k displays on
smartphones. 8k displays are also on the edge of happening as they have also been to implement on TV’s. So as in the previous article it was found that the breaking point of the PPI war is at 786 PPI. Then what is the point of developing anything above that? Samsung has recently announced that they are into a research regarding making of a 11k display on a Smartphone. Lets find out what it will offer to us.

Samsung and its fellow companies who are in this project is in the word that these 11k displays not only provide insanely high PPI rate of 2250, But is intended to produce more effects than just more PPI. Even 4k displays are found producing a 3d effect without 3d glasses. Samsung is in a belief that more PPI can create unknown effects, making displays behave more, than just displaying colors.

This Research could possibly bring some surprises and unknown facts in going towards immense PPI rates, and will enable more immersive and realistic VR effects (To know more on VR, Read our article on VR,click here). However let us see what 11k displays will bring along with more PPI rates. It is expected that the prototype will be ready by the year 2018.

OLED vs IPS screen:Smartphone screen

Most of should be in a situation to change your smartphone for a better display. Displays have become the primary criteria for choosing a smartphone. But before buying one considering various specifications like Pixels per inch and resolutions. The primary consideration should be on the type of display you want. It actually determines the nature of the view as well. For that lets take a look at what really they are and how they work.

IPS is a newer technology of LCD’s. It is just a more efficient LCD with higher color accuracy than its predecessor. OLED display have been there since the old LCD displays with minor improvements now. How do they differ? IPS screens are backlited. The LCD in the IPS displays have no ability to light by themselves. So a Backlight on the edges of the screen is used to light the display. Thus the backlight will always have to be turned on inorder to view the display, even in the blacks.

In the case of OLED screens they have self glowing organic Crystals which can glow when initiated. Thus no backlight is necessary. When the screen displays red, the crystals displays red and when black, it turns off. Thus the advantage over IPS screens is that they are capable of producing pure blacks. As they are lighted individually, they consume less power. These panels are thinner than IPS LCD as they do not need filters and backlights and thus enabling thinner smartphones. Coming to IPS displays, they are capable of producing much more accurate colors and pure whites. They are not organic and thus they lasts longer than OLED displays.

But which one is superior? Well, it depends upon the user preference and their taste for the displays. Most of you have seen both IPS and OLED displays in Flagship smartphones.

You may choose IPS displays if;

      ·         You prefer using your phone more than 3 years
      ·         If you are bothered on colour accuracy

You may choose OLED displays if

      ·         You change your smartphone quite often.
      ·         If you prefer more saturated display

      ·         If you need deep blacks and wide viewing angles.

5G: the next level of blazing speed

We are around the calls and chaos of 4g  recently. With 3G still not completely developed, there is constant evolvement of newer technologies like 4G. 4G which is still under developing phase in Inida, now constitutes only 5 % of the total mobile s

ubscribers. With the upcoming smartphones getting manufactured and released with 4 g support, the popularity of 4g is constantly increasing. But 4G still in this phase, which boosts the speeds from 20 mbps to 100 mbps. The next big thing, 5G is already in development. Lets take a look at what 5G has to deliver.

5G, The Fifth generation is the next step of data transfer. Apart from the older 3G and 4G which support only narrow bandwidth. 5G has more. That is the speeds wont decrease according to increase in traffic. The speeds of 5G network is amazing, with speeds of 10 gbps. Yes GBPS. That is you can download 10 HD movies in just 1 second. 5G towers apart from older 4G towers which transmit signals to a constant distance using long range micro cells, will have short range micro cells which will broadcast signals at all distances. Another advantage is the low cost for its implementation as smaller cells installation costs much lesser than the previous versions. This will reduce the ever increasing data charges and will cater the needs of data hungry customers well. Another advantage is the capacity to carry multiple packets of data at once apart from single bulky packet which carries data of multiple users at once. So this will help increase the send and receive speeds.

Talking about the launch dates and development. Its implementation will be carried out by Samsung and Huawei during the year 2018. And it is estimated that at the year 2020 almost 80% of the population will carry 3G connection and current popularity of 4G will be carried on by 2015.

Assembled Smartphone: Google Project ARA

Assembling the Device
The Smartphone market is filled with hundreds of models suiting all variety of users and their needs. Purchasing one of them has been a tedious process since then. Selection procedures and criteria have been drastically increasing as days passes by. But at most times you had to compromise on certain features for accommodating some features you need. Or needed to buy a flagship phone, just for having a better camera. For instance if you wanted a great camera phone and doesn’t use any other features of the phone, Still you have to buy a high end device which has a good camera regardless of other specs. So manufacturers decide what you should have. And also we become the victims of planned obsolescence where smartphone manufacturers release newer models more frequently and the loss of software updates. Here comes the significance of Google’s Project ARA. So lets take a look on what it actually is.

You must be familiar with the PC’s which you used to assemble instead of buying branded ones like dell and hp.PC’s architecture enabled us to build a custom PC according to our requirements. We used to replace and uprade the PC’s from time to time without replacing the whole thing. RAM,
Endoskeleton
Processor, MotherBoard, Harddisks and all were replaceable and upgradable. Then why should PCs have all the fun?? lolz..Project ARA is the project by Google to convey the same towards smartphones. Initially known as phone blocks this was renamed to ARA as it is the name of the project Leader. Google has already introduced a working prototype earlier this year. In this we swappable components for the smartphones. Camera, Processor, RAM, Battery, Wifi antenna, The display, Speaker, Mic and pretty much everything can be swapped for a new one. You can add a 45 mp camera in a phone with low end display. If speed is your priority, then you can have a 2mp camera low quality display and shed the extra money towards buying a high end processor. That is you could actually buy and build these components all by yourself and upgrade from time to time. Google in their demonstration of ARA assembled the whole thing up in seconds and also installed the camera module after booting.

Modules
Now lets take a look at the prototype itself. The main part of the device is the basic motherboard called Endoskeleton. This is what you begin with, which is available at 3 sizes according to user preference the small one, the 5 inch model and a 5.7 inch model. The only confusing factor when
buying devices of this type is only the size. Then you can buy separate modules like camera, Display, processor etc with your own specifications and insert it to the slots in the device. Done! You have your custom phone.!

Now lets talk the pricing of the device and release date. Google is expected to release a consumer version of this device later this year itself. The pricing is about 6000 INR for the basic Endoskeleton and the modules ranging from 3000 to 20000 INR. Even though it seems exciting, Google has a long way to go .The bulkier design and driver issues must be well taken care of inorder to get consumers to have their hands on.

Smartphone Radiation:A controversy

We live in a world of radiation. From radiation by natural elements like Uranium towards the most common artificial Smartphone radiation. Before calculation of radiation and intensity, lets take a look at how radiation emits. The Smartphone works by the signals coming from the mobile tower carrying data. But the Smartphone also needs some radiation blaster inorder to receive these signals. Thus not only mobile tower but smartphones require radiations by itself inorder to send and receive signals.Mobile towers are checked and verified for the exact amount of radiation which is not harmful to the human body. But what is the radiation that our smartphone emit?

It has been a debate even now if Smartphone radiation is harmful to human body or not.Smartphone radiation is non-Ionizing and thus not harmful. But there has been no confirmation regarding that as some studies shows that it is unhealthy. There are several smartphones released by hundreds of companies. So Standards are necessary to keep the radiation levels down and to assure that no compromise has been made in the making of a smartphone.A smartphone’s radiation is measured as SAR value ( Specific Absorption Rate ).In India it is measured as watts of radiation emitted to the body of 1 kg per 1 gram tissue. The maximum SAR value allotted in India is 1.6 kg per 1 gm of Tissue. It is measured at the talking position with the antennas close to the face.No Smartphone having radiations above this level is not permitted for sale in India. Apart from other countries which relies on Smartphone manufacturer’s SAR testing, India in it’s Telecommunication Engineering Centre perform the tests by themselves and makes it assure.India is a country with strict policies regarding Smartphone radiation levels. But does low SAR value affect the range of Signal? The answer is No;SAR value determines the radiation emitted by the smartphones under normal signal quality from the tower. These values may vary according to the signal quality from the Mobile Tower. If at a poor signal area, The lowest SAR valued Smartphones may emit higher radiation levels than the High SAR value devices under normal circumstances. Thus it is only an average value of the radiation emitted by the smartphone.

Even though most studies depicts Smartphone radiation harmless, care should be taken inorder to avoid these radiations as this context is still a debating issue. So how should you choose a Smartphone with lowest radiation possible? Yes certainly by looking at the SAR value. You can find the SAR values on your smartphone’s packaging. Or just simply verify your phone specifications in google. If you are confused between two phones during a Smartphone purchase, Do consider this factor in choosing the one for you.

Some Smartphones with low SAR rating are listed below;

Samsung Galaxy A5 (Body SAR) -  0.48 W/kg
Galaxy note 4 (Body SAR)            -  0.38 W/kg
HtC one M8 (Body SAR)               - 0.22 W/kg
Zenfone 2 (Body SAR)                   - 0.35 W/kg
Galaxy S6 (Body SAR)                   - 0.50 W/kg

The Smartphones with comparatively high SAR value are;

Iphone 6 (Body SAR)                      - 0.97 W/kg
Iphone 5s (Body SAR)                     - 1.00 W/kg

Even though SAR value up to 1.6 is permitted by the standards,it is better advised to use a smartphone with comparatively low SAR value.Along with these it is recommend to use your smartphones in the following ways inorder to reduce exposure to radiaton.

1-Always use a headphone to talk

2-Switch your phone off while going to sleep or keep it away while sleeping.
3-Use texting instead of callig wherever possible
4-Avoid using your phone in low signal areas as the antennas would be in high power to acquire signals.
5-Always keep your phones in your pockets with the screen facing your body as the antennas of your smartphones are located on the back side.

Overcharging your Smartphone: Is it worth?

Smartphone usage has increased drastically over the years and now an indispensable part of our life. The usage has gone so high that it has become like a vital organ of our body. It is hard to find anyone without a smartphone. ’Wherever you go I am there;  Smartphone ( LOL )’.With so much time with in our hands when does it get charged? It does need juice to move on. But it being with us the whole day, when will you plug it in for charging? Yes most of us probably might be doing it overnight. A normal cellphone battery requires a charging time of 2-3 hours.( except for those superchargers out there). And we cant expect to lose our phones for that much of time, right? So the time we charge our smartphones has been pushed as while we are sleeping. So we leave it there until morning. But it did concerned most of you whether if it is a good idea. Will it damage your phone? Is it the best method of charging? Will it damage your smartphone? Lets have a look.

For determining the best Charging method for your smartphone, First you have to identify which battery it packs. Because It is not the smartphone which determine the charging method but the battery type, sure most smartphones have automatic cut off circuits. Each battery type has its own characteristics as by the anodes and cathodes used in it. The Battery can be identified by verifying you user manual or popping the back cover of your phone and find the details embedded on your battery. Dont believe in suggestions by others neglecting  your battery type.
These are the types of batteries found in Smartphones.

·         Lithium Polymer ( Li-Poly ) Battery
 Lithium Ion ( Li-Ion ) Battery
Nickel Cadmium ( NiCd ) Battery
Nickel metal Hybrid ( NiMH ) Battery

Lithium Polymer ( Li-Poly ) Battery – These are the most advanced battery version. This is light weight and helps makes the smartphone slimmer. It packs more battery backup than other batteries. But there are cons as well. It carries a memory effect. ( Memory effect is an effect where the battery tends to remember the charge cycles and tends to perform likewise) If it is charged multiple times, it will remember that cycle and tends to discharge faster. So care should be taken to recharge it only when it is empty and must be charged full at once.

Lithium Ion ( Li-Ion ) Battery – This is the most common form of batteries used in Modern Smartphones. These are costly and is found usually found in almost all smartphones today. These have the most lifetime. It doesn’t require proper caring as it embeds an electronic circuit with the smartphone which controls the discharge and also prevents overcharging. However these are prone to damages if charged more than 24 hours.

Nickel Cadmium ( NiCd ) Battery – These are oldest technology which when compared to Lithium ion, has only disadvantages. These suffer from memory effect and also it should be completely discharged before charging. They also cause pollution while leakage as it consists of non degradable chemicals.

Nickel metal Hybrid ( NiMH ) Battery – These are slightly advanced form of NiCD batteries. These are made environment friendly and have more capacity. Memory effects are reduced in this type. These batteries are required to be discharged once in 20 charge cycles to maintain its performance and increase lifetime.

The best method for your phone should be taken as after considering the type of battery your device packs. Most of our newest smartphones uses Lithium Ion batteries and packs additional circuits which prevents overcharging and sudden discharge. If your phone has a Lithium Ion battery, You have no restrictions in charging. While overcharging through the night , as the battery reaches 100 % the circuit automatically breaks the power towards the battery. It is surely not going to blow up the battery. But the circuit is still exposed to small amount of heat which may damage the battery in the long run. But don’t worry, it is negligible and can be considered as normal wear and tear. Most of us won’t be using a single smartphone for more than 2 years, So the issue is not a concern at all , as people who have been charging overnight for 2.5 years have not encountered any battery problems. But if you need to protect them even from these minute damages, and need to maintain the battery
backup, It is recommended for you to keep the phone battery levels between 60 and 80 % respectively. This is healthy for these type of batteries. And also it is not recommended to discharge the battery completely on these batteries. If charged more often, the battery stays more healthy. Another fact is that is you keep the phone idle for a long time it is recommended to keep the level at 50%.

It is no possible to take care of your smartphone as life becomes busier. So most of you should prefer charging overnight, even though it damage the battery in the long run. And those who want to keep their phone away from any sort of damages and maintain the battery backup throughout the life of the smartphone may follow these.

·        Keep the charge between 60 and 80 % whenever possible
Do not discharge the phone to empty
Not to perform a 0 to 100 % charge in one cycle.

Following these would be exhausting. But fact is fact whether ignored or not.
However, the benefits derived wont be worth the efforts.

IRIS SENSOR, The next level of Smartphone Security!

We have been amazed by various tech related with smartphone security till date. We do remember the time when pincodes were the only way of protecting a smartphone. Then swipe pattern security came with a bit more easier approach and now at fingerprint sensor which provides optimal security with around 50 ‘points of comparison’ .All these should be matched with the prerecorded pattern inorder to unlock the device. There are also other couple of security features like facial recognition which is not at all times is perfect. These transitions reduced  the interaction with the device to unlock the device. As pattern lock was made for comfortableness fingerprint sensors enabled more of it with additional security. And has been proved with devices like iphone 5s, Galaxy s5, S6, iphone 6, 6plus, and yes the upcoming One plus Two (Rumored). But hey, Tech is Infinity and it never ends. Lets take a look at the next level of smartphone security, The Iris Sensor.

Fujitsu Prototype at MWC
What is an Iris Sensor? How it works? How it is more secure than Fingerprint sensor? Lets find out! An iris sensor is a sensor which determines the unique features of your eye inorder to lock or unlock the device. As like the fingerprints no two humans have an identical retina, even for the twins. But what is Iris? It is the colored muscle that encircles the pupil of the eye which expands and contracts according to the incoming light. ( Melanin determines the color pigment, where more browner and the less, blacker) .So the sensor determines each and every texture of this Iris inorder to determine the identity. The first smartphone with an iris sensor to have is the Fujitsu smartphone prototype which has been displayed at the MWC ( Mobile Word Congress) of 2015.
How does Iris sensor work in a smartphone? An Iris sensor requires a camera and an infrared sensor inorder to determine the Iris. The camera simply scans the visible features of the Iris and the infrared scanner enables to scan and  determine the textures and features of the Iris which is invisible with naked eye. After scanning these features the Iris scanning software generates an unique ID called ‘Iris Code’  and embeds the details into that ID. This code consists of about 512 digits. No two Iris will have identical number. The process of Iris security has two phases.

1-Enrollment
2-Verification

The Enrollment process includes registering you Iris features to the Device. This makes use of the two cameras and the Iris software detects and removes unnecessary parts like eyelashes and then analyzes and generates the 512 digit Iris Code and stores it.
At the Verification process the Two cameras again analyzes the Iris and generate the 512 digit code
and then compares with its stored database for the same number. If found the device will be unlocked or else will be discarded as unauthorized access.
Now, how is it more secure than Fingerprint sensors? The Finger Print sensor makes use of about 50 unique features of the fingerprint for security. But the Iris scanner uses about 240 unique features of the Iris. So it is clear that the Iris scanner is undoubtedly almost 5 times more secure than Fingerprint scanners. Since the working prototype has been revealed, It is soon intended to arrive on consumer versions. Samsung is also rumored to pack an Iris sensor on it’s upcoming smartphones soon.

Virtual Rality and Augmented Reality: Comparitively explained

VR Display
We are on an era of constant and inclining technological advancement in the field of Gadgets. From the invention of wireless devices towards touch screen devices and in turn Smartphones.A Smartphone is a device which packs various sensors like gyrometer ,accelerometer, fingerprint scanners, proximity and now at the edge of iris sensors. But the time has come for this form factor to change. Virtual headsets and Augmented reality headsets are going to replace the now ageing touchscreen technology. But what is Virtual Reality and Augmented reality? How it works? Are they two distinct phrases? Is there any difference between these two? Lets find out!

Oculus Rift
Virtual Reality is a term used to define any sort of simulation using advanced gadgets. It simulates a virtual environment without being there for yourself. You can be at  the place of volcano without going there.or experience deep underwater world, or indulge in to a never existing imaginated fantasy world. All these with the help of VR devices. The most compact form of VR device now is the OCULUS RIFT.But how does it work? A virtual headset is a device which packs advanced sensors that tracks head movement, Lenses for visual perspective and a display for the virtual experience.
Google Cardboard
talking about the sensor, It has Head tracking accomplished with 1000 Hz absolute 9DOF orientation sensor (includes gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer). As for a simplest example, take the case of water level app in your smartphone.Yes ,it makes use of accelerometer, See how it performs 100 % accurate. Thus it is not a magical achievement. It just took time for someone to think about it, and is now a reality. What an accelerometer does? Lets look into it. piezoelectric effect is the most common form of accelerometer used n these devices and it uses microscopic crystal structures that become stressed due to accelerative forces. These crystals create a voltage from this stress, and the accelerometer interprets and calculates the voltage to determine velocity and orientation of the actual movement.Gyroscope helps measure the orientation levels and the magnetometer helps analyze the magnetic properties.all these constitutes the sensors of VR devices. In addition smartphones can also be used as VR as it has all the sensors packed in a VR headset ,by adding it with Google's Cardboard which packs two lenses and slot for placing the smartphone.

Holographic Experience( Photo: Microsoft Ad.)
Augmented Reality is another term which refer to the use of virtual reality immersed into the real world. It acts as a form of assistance enabling doing tasks in a real world environment. It is also known or called as Holograms. The device which enables augmented reality is the Microsoft Holo Lens which is already under developed and will be in market soon. This device also uses head tracking sensors and in addition it uses an energy efficient depth camera, a microphone array, and a Photographic Videographic Camera which captures the real world. The depth camera analyzes the external environment for the purpose of placing holograms according to the application. The main advantage of thus device is architectural designing making concept models at an instance and without paper calculations. This tech helps them design in the real world as Holograms. This also helps in gaming.Imagine suddenly an alien comes to your room. This is possible with Holo Lens.

At the end of the day, VR and AR are the same except that AR devices packs some additional sensors and camera for the purpose of integrating the real world with virtual world.where as VR devices completely takes you into a virtual world.By using it you are completely blinded from the real world. Both are to be out for sale this year and are expected to shake up the gadget sector.

Does PIXELS PER INCH really matter? But how far?: Logically Explained!

Regardless of the device you use, display is the most important part of a device.By the invent of touch screens the display has become a two way interaction surface. Thus to be dealt with the most important part of the smartphone or your desktop,it is vital for it to be more and more user friendly and biocompatible.
The factor which determine the quality of display is resolution. To be more precise Pixels Per Inch  ( PPI ).It is the actual number of pixels that can show color at each square inch of the display. From the past we have been getting improved display with increasing PPI values.from the old 256 k color 140p displays with mere 140 PPI towards 8 k displays. In the past no one cared for the PPI value of the screen.but with the advent of newer techs in smartphones, the supply of better displays have been made.Gradually we are also made to like those insanely high PPI Displays. The range is now at whopping 577 PPI with the release of Samsung galaxy S6 which packs a 4k AMOLED panel over the 5.2 inch display.
But the question is ,how much PPI can human eyes actually recognize with his naked eye? It depends upon the viewing distance. That is the distance between our eyes and the display surface. The normal viewing distance for healthy viewing is 12 inches. For that distance, the utmost number of PPI a human can see is around 300 PPI.The more closer you go near the display, more the pixel will appear. But is there any benefits with smartphones with 577 PPI? The answer is Yes! A  human eye can see no pixels at 12 inches distance, but can spot pixels as he moves closer below 12 inches. But how far? The minimum focal length of a human eye is about 4 inches. We cant focus on anything closer than 4 inches from our eyes.So there is a breaking point for this PPI war. Which at 4 inches, when calculated the PPI with no pixelation at this point is 876 PPI. Which is for a human with 20/20 score in eyesight. So that is the breaking point for this PPI war by smartphone manufacturers. But why should we look at a smartphone display from that breaking point distance? Is it a marketing gimmick? No,the next era of smartphone is virtual reality which already is in existence like google cardboards for smartphones. This requires viewing distance of almost close to 4 inches and it is required for better immersive VR experience. Now you know that smartphones manufacturers are determined and aimed for the future than mere marketing gimmicks.
PPI Representation.

But can these increasing PPI rates be useful to the human eyes?do they reduce eye strain? The answer is YES.It has been scientifically proven that increasing PPI's reduces eye strain. As low pixel rate will make human eyes strain to recognize and connect pixels into a picture or alphabet (although it is involuntary). This has been proved  long before since smartphones are invented.Lets take the case of magazines. The magazines are printed in 300 PPI. magazines are recommended to be read from a distance of 12 inches from it's surface. Thus we wont be able to notice any pixelation. This reduces eye strain.Smartphones with much higher PPI rates can be viewed closer and we wont notice any pixels at all and thereby low strain as compared to low PPI displays.Lets find out what the next step of display tech be, after reaching the breaking point in time frame.

Nano Crystal and QD Displays: Display Tech.

Samsung Nano Crystal TV
Display technology have been emerged through various phases. From LCD's to TFT's, IPS, OLED ,Quantum Dots and now Nano Crystal. Before proceeding lets see what Quantum dots are? Although all of those, apart from OLED are basically LCD with backlighting technology.
OLED carries self lighting capability providing much more viewing angles and deeper blacks than any other displays. But they are made from organic particles and thus are expensive to produce and degrade over time reducing display performance ,Quantum dots and nano crystals are emerging as they are non organic and lasts more than OLEDs.

To be honest the Nano crystals are only a Samsung modified version of quantum dot Displays. They are placed on top of basic LCDs as a layer to transmit the backlight in a more efficient way. Thus it is a thin film which transmit and separates color. From older LCD tech,It enabled a more pure filteration for accurate colors and contrast levels. It includes Semiconductor Nanocrystals which perform as and when electrically charged.

Flexible Display Prototype
Nano Crystals makes use of QD technology with smaller crystals (as the name specifies) which will deliver a more sharper picture. So basically both are same with two trade names.QDs particles rage from between 2nm to 10nm and nanoparticles range from 1nm to 100nm.So minute difference in their particle size as mentioned in nanometers which is equal to 1.0 X 10 raised to -7.Both are flexible and can be attached to any type of LCD's and curve screens.

With so much of display tech still coming,
like Flexible curved screens and rolling screens made by Samsung, which is already patended and prototyped,we could witness a display revolution soon.
